In October 2019, VEO completed the delivery of two additional substations to Swedish distribution network operator DNO Ellevio. During the last few years, VEO has delivered a total of five substations for Ellevio’s wind park connections.
The two 145/36kV substations connect wind parks Åmot-Lingbo and Tönsen to the grid. The wind parks with a total of 85 wind turbines have a capacity of 357 MW and an estimated annual production of 1,1 TWh, making them one of the largest land-based wind parks in the Nordics.
“VEO is proud to be part of this important project where we assist Ellevio to take Sweden one step closer to its goal of 100 per cent renewable energy production by 2040,” says Andreas Martin, Sales Manager, Substations, at VEO.
The project is an EPC delivery – covering everything from civil works, engineering, site management and commissioning to connecting the wind parks to the 36 and 145kV networks. The substations are based on VEO’s modular solutions for medium and high voltage switchgears and are tailored according to Ellevio’s needs and requirements. The VEO modular substation building integrates the medium voltage switchgears as well as control, protection and communication equipment.
VEO’s modular building allows for prefabrication, installation and testing of the medium voltage switchgers as well as the protection, control and communication equipment in controlled conditions at the factory in Vasa. At the same time, the foundations are being built at site. When the modular building arrives to the construction site, only final installations and commissioning remain. This leads to shorter execution times, safer working conditions on site and higher quality.
“We are very thankful for the cooperation with DNO Ellevio and that they continue to show confidence in VEO by awarding us new project orders. Since the first mutual project with Ellevio in 2014, we have had a good constructive dialog which have enabled us to further improve and tailor our solutions and products to suit Ellevio’s specific demands,” concludes Martin.
