“If you are eager to learn and take on new challenges every day, VEO is the place for you – as long as you have the willpower, not necessarily the experience.”
Meet Luxshan Manoranjan, who joined VEO Norway as a system engineer in April 2025 and passed one of Norway’s most demanding electrical certification exams within his first year. Luxshan shares his story of embracing new challenges and finding an environment that supports growth.
Name: Luxshan Manoranjan
Role: System Engineer and Faglig ansvarlig
Joined VEO: April 2025
Location: Oslo, Norway
Hello Luxshan! Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m 32 years old and currently living in Oslo. I have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in electrical Power Engineering, and I also have a practical background as an electrician – so I’m comfortable both in the design room and on site.
What do you do at VEO?
My role combines several responsibilities. I work as the person responsible for the installation and commissioning of electrical systems carried out by VEO in Norway, and I ensure the safety of everyone working on site. Alongside that, I work as a system engineer and site manager in the hydropower department, and I also participate in the commissioning of hydropower plant installations.
What’s your story, and why did you join VEO?
Early in my career I worked as a consulting engineer. After a while, I wanted to challenge myself by moving into something more hands-on and closer to customers with specific needs.
That’s what brought me to VEO. During my interview, I learned more about the company and the kind of projects VEO works on, and I was genuinely excited. I also mentioned that becoming a faglig ansvarlig – the certified professional responsible for electrical installations in Norway – was an ambition of mine. Håkon Stamnes, the managing director of VEO Norway, told me that VEO is a place where people can grow and develop. I quickly learned those weren’t just words.
After my very first week, Håkon asked whether I was still interested in pursuing the certification and told me VEO would support me through the process. I said yes immediately. VEO covered the books and a preparation course for the Installatørprøven exam, Norway’s official certification for electrical supervisors. I took the exam in October 2025 and passed on my first attempt. In December, I officially signed as faglig ansvarlig for VEO Norway.
How would you describe VEO as a company?
VEO is a place where we learn together, explore together, and grow together.
What do you enjoy most about working at VEO?
VEO feels like a family. We help each other and tackle the most complex challenges in a collaborative way.
What are the most interesting challenges you’re currently working on?
Right now, I’m working with the complex control systems of a hydropower plant, while simultaneously managing site activities and ensuring that safety instructions and procedures are in place for everyone on site.
Have there been difficult moments or setbacks – and what did you learn from them?
Yes, there have been some. The key lesson I’ve taken from those experiences is the importance of working more closely with customers from the very beginning and defining requirements clearly at an early stage. It leads to better outcomes for everyone.
What has been your biggest learning at VEO?
There is no shame in failure. There is always room for improvement and growth.
VEO’s slogan is “Rethinking the current” – what does that mean to you?
For me, rethinking the current means challenging conventional solutions to build systems that are sustainable and built for the long term. In my role, that means actively seeking out new components and adapting to the power plant during the engineering phase and, on the other hand, applying lessons learned from site work to continuously improve instructions and procedures, with a particular focus on employee safety.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I love playing badminton and enjoy working out at the gym.
What would you say to someone considering a career at VEO?
If you are eager to learn about sophisticated and complex electrical systems and infrastructure, VEO is the place for you – as long as you have the willpower. Experience matters, but it’s not everything.
Thank you Luxshan for sharing your story.
