In 2000, Jaana Taittonen was looking for her first summer job in her field as an engineering student and ended up working at VEO. Over 20 years have passed by and Jaana works now as a Project Manager at VEO. For her, VEO has offered new challenges for more than two decades – first as a summer employee and later as an engineer and a project manager.
“I began my engineering studies at the University of Vaasa in 1999 and continued them later at the Aalto university. At first, I dreamed of studying humanities, but I have always been interested in mathematics and problem-solving which led me into the field of engineering”, Jaana explains.
“Those summers were amazing, and I gained more knowledge about power plants. Already then, I began working in the team specialised in Wärtsilä projects which I have now worked on my whole career.”
Great team spirit and sense of belonging
“We have such a superb team with a great sense of humour and a low threshold to ask for help. The colleagues have an enormous positive impact on my wellbeing at work.”
“My position changed from an engineer to a project manager in 2011. After that, I have only focused on project management tasks and acted as a link between a customer and our own project team.”
“Those moments when everyone from VEO comes together remain memorable. I feel a strong sense of belonging in those moments. Also, we have a wonderful community of women at VEO. I have made friends whit whom I can talk about everything, not just about the work. We support each other and spend time together outside work as well.”
Hectic family life and working at VEO fit well together
“At the moment I am coaching my daughter’s team three times a week. I have realised that I don’t think anything work-related while doing it.”
“I think and dream about the future every now and then. At this moment I am genuinely content with my position and tasks. Working at VEO feels challenging in the right measure and matches perfectly to the hectic family life. Nevertheless, I keep my eyes open for new challenges, especially the ones inside VEO.”
