In the summer of 2018, VEO delivered a new substation to Savon Voima Verkko Oy in Iisalmi, Finland. The Paloisvirta 110 kV substation is based on gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) technology and is an important node in the Iisalmi power distribution network.
Why GIS?
Substations based on GIS technology require less space than traditional air-insulated ones as the switchgear can be placed indoors. This also makes it possible to create a nicer looking construction; the Paloisvirta substation, for example, is coated in brick which makes it fit nicely into the urban environment in the centre of Iisalmi.
GIS substations are built on site, as turnkey deliveries. VEO manages everything, starting from the excavation work to the delivery of protection, control and automation equipment. The GIS share of VEO projects keeps growing as an increasing number of customers discover the benefits.
Reliable track record
VEO’s extensive project management skills combined with the best products on the market result in top-quality projects. Savon Voima Verkko has worked with VEO since the beginning of VEO´s history and has continued confidence in the Vaasa-based company.
“Substation construction in an urban environment is always a demanding project. Once again, VEO has proven its reliability.”
