VEO offers great opportunities for those who aspire to work towards a more sustainable tomorrow. Niko and Kristoffer work at VEO’s headquarters in Vaasa as Project Engineers. Though they have the same job title, they work with different customers and projects, hence their work differs from one another. Next, these young engineers will tell how they have been able to develop their skillset while working for VEO.

VEO’s Project Engineers Work with a Variety of Tasks

As an employer, VEO is committed in offering a wide range of challenges and prospects to grow as a professional. These young professionals were recruited during 2023 as freshly graduated engineers. Niko has graduated from VAMK as a Bachelor of Energy Technology and Kristoffer graduated from Novia as a Bachelor of Electrical and Automation Technology.

“I mostly work with VEO’s industrial customers, but I have some tasks in KAM projects. I have been surprised how versatile my work tasks are. I mainly assist Project Managers, update documents, keep all the stakeholders up to date on different projects and organize follow-up meetings with them. I have also taken part to factory acceptance testing when our customers have visited us to check that our products work as they should before delivery.”, Niko explains.

Kristoffer on the other hand works mainly with KAM projects which means that he works with the biggest customers of VEO. He was interested in finding a project related work after his graduation and he has been satisfied with his post at VEO.

“My work tasks can vary a lot from week to week but typical tasks for me have been for example: billing, quotations, assisting project managers with various tasks and coordinating things between customers and VEO. I have a couple of smaller projects on my responsibility as well, where I can learn more about project management and all the processes throughout projects. I feel that my colleagues trust me at VEO, and it makes it possible for me to grow as a professional.” Kristoffer tells.

Opportunities for Career Development

Niko and Kristoffer both found their jobs from internet, and they applied to VEO’s job advertisements. Niko also had a friend working at VEO, and he encouraged him to apply for a job. According to the experience of Niko and Kristoffer, VEO provides many opportunities for career development.

“As a Project Engineer at VEO, I have a great possibility to really learn all the ups and downs of project management. The company is also very open about career development. By this, I mean that if a person has the willingness and ambition, they can move up to other positions inside VEO”, Kristoffer emphasises.

Project Engineer is a point of contact for many stakeholders, which means that they must be able to communicate and find out answers for the customers.

“VEO is an international workplace and for example, I am continually in contact with colleagues and customers in different countries. It is important to have problem solving skills and have the courage to ask if you do not know something. These are crucial skills for a Project Engineer.”, Niko explains.

Great Colleagues and Perks

Both engineers say that they have great colleagues, and they have felt welcomed in their teams. They are also satisfied with their orientation phase at VEO.

“The orientation phase was thorough and gave me tools to success as Project Engineer. For example, we got to spend two weeks in VEO’s manufacturing to better understand how different processes work at VEO.“ Kristoffer tells.

“I am glad that VEO supports employees’ activities on their free time by offering exercise perks. It helps me to stay active during my free time as well as at work.” Niko ends.
