Ari Pätsi leads VEO’s functional engineering organisation

Ari Pätsi has been responsible for VEO’s new functional engineering organisation since the beginning of June. He finds his new position as Director, Engineering, an exciting step forward in his long career at VEO, which started in 2003 with a summer job, later followed by various positions in engineering, sales, project planning and development. Now, he uses his vast experience from the company as well as his seat in VEO group’s management team to further improve VEO’s operations for the benefit of VEO’s clients – and employees.

Since VEO’s new functional engineering organisation came into full effect in September 2022, Ari Pätsi has worked actively with VEO’s six engineering teams who now form the core of VEO’s engineering expertise in electrification. Before the reform, VEO’s engineers were working for a given business unit, but now all engineering expertise is coordinated to serve all of VEO’s clients. The new organisation is based in Finland, and it works closely with VEO’s clients in Sweden and Norway.

During the past four months, Pätsi’s main goal has been to streamline and uniform the practices within his organisation, starting from leadership, meeting procedures and ways of working.

“I would say that implementing our new resource management tool has been the most significant single accomplishment. That, combined with active communication with project management and sales makes us even more agile and better prepared to coming projects. Cooperation is key to success”, explains Pätsi.

Compared to his earlier positions at VEO, Pätsi’s work is now much less about technical solutions and more about leadership, administration and development. In his first positions as System Engineer and Lead Engineer, Pätsi was involved in the planning and commissioning of numerous projects all over the Nordic countries, and also in Uruguay. In his previous positions as a developer, he has contributed to the standardisation of VEO’s modular substation as well as the development of VEO’s medium-voltage switchgear, the Vector.

“Interest in technology and development is in my blood, and I believe that my nearly 20 years of experience at VEO definitely is an advantage in this position. I know many of the people I’m working with and have worked in projects similar to the ones we are now delivering, so I have a lot to retrieve from my experiences. I also strive to be as good a leader as possible, available to both my old and new colleagues”, Pätsi confirms.

Based on the first few months, Pätsi feels that the new way of working has been a success and the projects towards VEO’s clients roll as normal.
“It is all thanks to our dedicated team members, who have been very positive about the change”, says Pätsi with gratitude and continues.

“After all, we have the house full of top-skilled engineers, so the reorganisation has been mostly about picking the best practices and putting them smoothly in practice to optimise our productivity and efficiency. The new organisation will also provide new opportunities for professional development and specialisation for VEO’s engineers. “

Pätsi is trustful and happy about the reform, which he believes was the right call.

“This will strengthen VEO’s position and bring us closer to our strategic goal – to be known as a top expert in all the fields we operate. Personally, I also look forward to further develop my leadership skills and find ways to make VEO an even better place to work”.
