Grid modelling a part of VEO’s wind farm substation delivery to Energiequelle

VEO is proud to deliver two turnkey wind farm substations in Finland to its new customer Energiequelle, a German international project developer in renewable energy. The wind farms, the 30-MW Takanebacken in Malax and the 50-MW Torvenkylä in Kalajoki, are both located on the West Coast of Finland and will provide energy to the national grid.

The contracts for the wind farm substations were signed in May and June 2021. The construction is ongoing, and the substations will be operational already in the summer of 2022. Both projects represent a wide scope of VEO’s electrical expertise: in addition to the substations, VEO also delivers the main transformers and all needed grid modelling and simulation services – in essence, everything needed to connect the wind farms to the grid. Takanebacken and Torvenkylä are VEO’s first substation deliveries in Finland that include grid code compliance studies. These studies will ensure that the farms fulfil the requirements set for them by the grid operator.

“We are very pleased with the electrical expertise VEO brings to our wind farms in Takanebacken and Torvenkylä. With 144 000 tons/year in combined CO2 emissions savings, these wind parks take us one step closer to a decarbonised energy future in Finland.”

VEO’s turnkey deliveries cover everything from civil works to automation. The substations are based on VEO’s modular solutions for medium and high-voltage switchgears, and will be manufactured, installed, and tested as far as possible in VEO’s factory in Vaasa. The controlled conditions at the factory enables short delivery times, high quality equipment and full attention to occupational safety, as only the final installations and commissioning are done on site.

“We are very happy about our collaboration with Energiequelle. The projects are well underway and the cooperation with all parties has been smooth. Energiequelle is a significant player within renewable energy, and we hope to continue the collaboration in future projects,” says Antti Hiironniemi, Sales Manager, Substations at VEO.
