The 400/110 kV substation supplied by VEO strengthens the reliability of Finland’s energy infrastructure and promotes the utilisation of wind power.
VEO served as the main contractor for Fingrid, Finland’s national transmission system operator, in the substation project at Pysäysperä.
- Location: Haapajärvi, Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland
- Project scope: VEO delivered a 400/110 kV substation, which serves as a crucial hub in Finland’s transmission network, enhancing electricity distribution and the integration of renewable energy sources across the country.
- The turnkey delivery, excluding the main transformers, included a 400 kV full duplex switchgear, as well as 110 kV and 20 kV switchgear systems with primary and secondary systems, a control building, design, civil works, installations, testing, and commissioning.
The Pysäysperä substation features advanced technology suitable for high-voltage levels, improving network stability and adapting to varying power sources. VEO ensured the project stayed on schedule and maintained high quality through factory production and testing in Vaasa, Finland.
The substation is connected to Finland’s Metsälinja electricity transmission line, contributing to maintaining energy price stability across the country. The project also supports the construction of several wind farms (with 1,000 MW of electric power) in the area. This initiative facilitates the seamless integration of renewable energy into the grid, advancing Finland’s energy transition.
Fingrid’s EUR 27 million Investment
The project exemplifies Fingrid’s continued commitment to modernising Finland’s electricity network to meet future energy needs while supporting the country’s ambitious renewable energy targets. At the start of the project, the substation was the largest in Finland’s grid so far.
“The major substation project in Pysäysperä was very successful, thanks to the motivated and competent personnel of VEO. We have high confidence in VEO in future projects as well.”
– Daniel Kuosa, Head of Substation Projects at Fingrid
