Fingrid has chosen VEO to build the largest substation in Finland’s grid so far
October 29, 2020The Pysäysperä substation in Haapajärvi will connect a significant amount of wind power to the national electricity grid and create a strong starting point for the development of the area’s distribution network and wind power. In the vicinity of the station, wind farms are being developed for thousands of megawatts.
“It’s an honour that we have been chosen to implement this important node. We at VEO have been collaborating with Fingrid for a long time, and this project is a clear step forward in our cooperation,” says Antti Hiironniemi, Sales Manager of VEO.
The value of the agreement signed on Monday 19.10.2020 is approximately 14.5 million euros. The value of the entire investment package is just under 30 million euros. The substation will be built in connection with a new and important electricity transmission line known as Metsälinja. The substation contributes to the construction of a carbon-neutral Finland.
VEO’s delivery includes the entire substation excluding main transformers, and it is VEO’s first project with a voltage level of 400 kilovolts.
“A project of this size has a significant employment impact not only on VEO’s substation unit but also on relay cabinet production in our factory. Work at VEO has already begun on material purchases and subcontracting, as well as design. Construction work is scheduled to be completed in the autumn of 2022.”
